Proof Reading

Okay, you’ve written and edited your book and it is now ready for publishing. One question - Are you sure it is ready?

by this stage you will have been through it with a fine toothcomb and, of course, you have completed a spell check on the entire novel. But is it completely error free?

We just naturally assume that, if a word processor hasn’t slapped a red wiggly line underneath a word then the spelling must be correct. But the fact is, using a spell checker is no substitute for the eagle eyed proofreader. Consider the following sentences:

He had brought a spade with him to dig the hole in which to place the body.

He ad bought a spade with him to dug the hoe in which to pace the body.

How many mistakes are in the second sentence? If you got five, well done but less than five shows how easy it is to miss letters out of everyday words and spell checker often fails to pick up these little typos. But it is small things like this that make agents, publishers and readers think twice about your work.

Incidentally, the only time anything was flagged up in the second sentence was the word ‘He,’ but that was just to change it from He to His, for some bizarre reason. But how many times have you read a book and noticed grammatical errors? If superhuman editors from a publishing house can miss glaring mistakes, so can us mere mortal authors.

It is hard for a writer to work on a book for so long, editing and re-reading over and over again, that by the time it comes to the final re-read, the enthusiasm may start to ebb away.

But An Authors Way Can Help You.

We will painstakingly proofread your entire novel, read every line to make sure nothing is missed and allowing you that extra set of eyes that has previously never read your manuscript and therefore, doesn’t know what to expect.

You have our guarantee that we will not in any way attempt to publish your novel and this will be confirmed in our terms, which will be sent with confirmation that we have received your manuscript.

The cost of this service is just £40 per manuscript and our present turnover time is 14 days. You will not need to pay this prior to sending the manuscript. We will proofread first then, once it is complete, send you an invoice. Once this has been paid, we will send email the proofread manuscript back to you.

To submit your manuscript to us, please email proofreading@anauthorsway.com

Please note that this is not an editorial service, which is entirely different. An Authors Way will only proofread your manuscript for spelling and punctuation. However we may make suggestions which the author can accept or reject at their own discretion.
